I cannot fathom how this day has come to be. Though logically I knew that one day we would face this moment in time, it seems to me that the past five years have gone by much too fast.
Today is the beginning of your educational journey. It will be a journey of excitement and joy as well as frustration and disappointments. You will make new friends, and you will lose others. You will discover new things every day. You will confront your own views of the world and push the boundaries of what you thought impossible.
I have so much hope and excitement for you as you begin this new phase of your life.

4 Wishes For You On Your First Day of Kindergarten
A Curious Mind
Brian Grazer wrote a wonderful book by the same name where he states that though creativity is limited to the creative, curiosity is accessible to all. My wish is for you to feed your curiosity and nurture your sense of wonder. Never stop questioning the world around you. Don’t take your surroundings at face value. Dig deep.
The Wonder of Discovery
As you interact with new people and uncover new ideas, you’ll begin to construct your own worldview. The way you see the world will continue to evolve and change as you continue through education. I wish for you to continue to wonder, recalibrate, and push forward with each new discovery.
It may be unexpected to wish for your failure, however in the words of my own mentor, I wish for you to “fail forward.” Failure and disappointments are part of life, and I cannot always be there to protect you from the world’s hurt. What matters most is how you move forward.
The most successful people in life are the resilient ones. It’s easy for those around you to attribute your successes to luck or good timing. My wish for you is that you don’t believe any of that. You are in control of your future, no one else. There will be set backs and there will be times you’ll want to give up. Don’t. Problem-solve and push forward with your integrity and values intact. You can overcome anything with a growth mindset.
I love you so much and can’t wait to see where this journey leads. I’ll be cheering you on all the way.
